What's New at Sea: New Cruise Ships Launching in 2026 and 2027
The next couple of years are shaping up to be some of the busiest yet for cruise launches, with a wave of new ships hitting the water in 2026 and 2027.
Major lines are racing to outdo each other with bigger vessels, bold new onboard experiences, and itineraries to destinations that weren't on the cruise map a few years ago. Whether you're drawn to megaships packed with new attractions or smaller, more intimate vessels, there's a new ship worth watching. Here's a first look at the new cruise ships launching in 2026 and 2027 — and what makes each one stand out.
New Cruise Ships Launching in 2026 and 2027
Many new cruise ships are arriving in 2026 and 2027, including new vessels from MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Carnival Cruise Line, Disney Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, Explora Journeys, and other major cruise brands.
These ships range from large family-focused megaships to smaller luxury vessels, with new cabins, restaurants, entertainment, water attractions, wellness facilities, and improved onboard technology.
Many will sail popular regions including the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Northern Europe, and North America.

Here is a list of new cruise ships launching at the end of 2026.
MSC World Asia – MSC Cruises
Launch Date: December 2026
MSC World Asia is the latest addition to MSC Cruises' World Class series.
It will sail in the Mediterranean, visiting ports in Italy, Spain, France, and Malta.
MSC World Asia will retain many familiar World Class features while introducing an Asia-inspired design and new onboard experiences. Highlights include The Spiral dry slide (the longest dry slide at sea) the outdoor World Promenade, numerous restaurants and bars, extensive entertainment venues, and dedicated family and kids' areas.
One of its biggest additions is The Clubhouse, a new retro-inspired family entertainment space featuring games and activities for different age groups.
MSC World Asia will have more than 2,600 cabins, ranging from affordable interior and ocean-view rooms to balcony cabins, family accommodations, suites, and luxury MSC Yacht Club suites. Some premium options will also feature larger terraces, whirlpools, and duplex layouts.
Regent Seven Seas Prestige – Regent Seven Seas Cruises
Launch Date: December 2026
Seven Seas Prestige is a new ultra-luxury cruise ship from Regent Seven Seas Cruises, launching in December 2026.
It will offer all-balcony suites, including two-story Skyview Suites with private rooftop terraces and spacious Grand Loft Suites. The suites feature custom furnishings, natural stone, and polished marble finishes for a modern, luxurious feel.
Onboard, guests will find fine-dining restaurants, bars and lounges, boutiques, enrichment programs, live entertainment, a spa and pool areas. Dining options will include the new Mediterranean restaurant Azure, as well as Prime 7 and Pacific Rim.
Seven Seas Prestige will sail in several regions, including the Caribbean and Europe. Its Mediterranean itineraries will visit destinations in countries such as Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Turkey and Croatia, with ports including Rome, Barcelona, Monte Carlo, Athens and Istanbul.
Windstar Cruises - Star Explorer
Launch Date: December 2026
Star Explorer will join Windstar Cruises in December 2026. The small, all-suite ship will carry just 224 guests across 112 suites, offering a more intimate experience than larger Mediterranean cruise ships.
Most suites will feature either a private veranda or a floor-to-ceiling Infinity Window, providing ocean views and more space to enjoy the surroundings. The ship's smaller passenger capacity will also mean fewer crowds and a more relaxed atmosphere onboard.
Dining will include several restaurants, including Basil + Bamboo, which combines Mediterranean and Asian-inspired cuisine. Guests will also find casual dining options, bars and lounges around the ship.
Other onboard facilities will include a sundeck, pool and Watersports Platform. When conditions allow, the platform will provide direct access to the sea for swimming and water activities.
Star Explorer will sail year-round in the Mediterranean, visiting destinations across Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Croatia and Turkey. Its smaller size will allow it to visit smaller ports, islands and coastal destinations that many large cruise ships cannot easily access.
New Cruise Ships 2027
Explora IV – Explora Journeys
Launch Date: April 2027
EXPLORA IV is scheduled to begin sailing in summer 2027.
This ship will feature 461 ocean-front suites, five heated pools, seven restaurants, and 12 bars and lounges, with an emphasis on space and privacy.
Onboard highlights will include Shore Club on 11, The Chef’s Table, The Cellar, and two Owner’s Residences. Dining, selected beverages, Wi-Fi, gratuities, and access to Ocean Wellness will be included in the cruise experience.
EXPLORA IV is designed to run on liquefied natural gas (LNG) as well as conventional marine fuel. LNG burns more cleanly than traditional marine fuels, producing significantly lower sulfur emissions and other air pollutants. It can also reduce CO₂ emissions during combustion.
Where it will sail: Northern Europe, the Baltic, Iceland, Greenland, Canada, and the U.S. East Coast, with later voyages extending into the Caribbean and Central America.
Carnival Festivale – Carnival Cruise Line
Launch Date: May 2027
Carnival Festivale will join Carnival Cruise Line in 2027 as the fourth Excel-class ship, sailing from Port Canaveral, Florida. It will primarily offer Caribbean itineraries, including cruises to the Eastern and Southern Caribbean.
The ship will have a strong focus on music, entertainment, and family activities, with new venues including Studio 724 and The Festival.
Instead of the BOLT roller coaster found on other Excel-class ships, Carnival Festivale will feature Carnival WaterWorks Ultra, Carnival's largest family water park at sea.
The ship will also offer live entertainment, restaurants and bars, more connecting cabins, and dedicated family spaces.
Carnival Festivale will have a wide range of accommodations, including interior, ocean-view and balcony cabins, as well as larger suites. The ship will also feature more connecting cabins than Carnival's previous Excel-class ships, making it particularly suitable for families and larger groups traveling together.
Norwegian Aura – Norwegian Cruise Line
Launch Date: May 2027
Norwegian Aura will be one of the newest ships in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet, combining dining, entertainment, family activities, and relaxation.
Guests will have access to the Indulge Food Hall, offering a variety of cuisines, including Asian dishes and Texas-style BBQ.
The ship will also feature a large main pool deck, Kids' Aqua Park, Splash Pad, modern accommodations, and a range of onboard activities for adults and families.
Norwegian Aura will offer a range of accommodations, including inside cabins, ocean-view cabins, balcony cabins, and larger suites. Premium options will include The Haven suites, which provide additional space and access to exclusive areas and services.
Where it will sail: Norwegian Aura will sail from Miami, offering Caribbean cruises that visit destinations including the Bahamas, Dominican Republic, U.S. Virgin Islands, and British Virgin Islands.
Emerald Raiya – Emerald Cruises
Launch Date: June 2027
Emerald Raiya will be a small luxury yacht carrying just 128 guests in spacious suites.
Onboard, guests will find a Sky Deck, private cabanas, Elements Spa, and a marina platform providing direct access to the water for swimming and water activities.
The ship will initially sail around the Greek Islands, Turkey, and the Eastern Mediterranean, before offering itineraries in the Red Sea and Seychelles.
Its small size will allow it to visit smaller ports and coastal destinations that larger cruise ships cannot easily access.
Oceania Sonata – Oceania Cruises
Launch Date: August 2027
Oceania Sonata will launch a new class of ships for Oceania Cruises, with a focus on fine dining, spacious accommodations, and destination-focused cruising.
The ship will feature a variety of suites and cabins, new and returning restaurants, elegant lounges, and other premium onboard spaces.
Oceania Sonata will sail itineraries across Europe and the Mediterranean, followed by voyages to destinations in North America, the Caribbean, and South America.
Oceania Sonata will offer all-veranda accommodations, ranging from spacious veranda staterooms to larger luxury suites. Suite categories will include Penthouse, Oceania, Vista, and Owner’s Suites, with more space and additional amenities.
Hero of the Seas – Royal Caribbean
Launch Date: August 2027
Hero of the Seas will join Royal Caribbean’s fleet in summer 2027 as an Icon Class ship. It will feature a large waterpark, nine pools, a wide range of restaurants and bars, live entertainment, and plenty of activities for families.
The ship will sail Caribbean itineraries from Miami, combining the major attractions of Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class with new dining, entertainment, and onboard experiences.
Hero of the Seas will offer a wide range of accommodations, including interior, ocean-view and balcony cabins, family-focused rooms, and larger suites. Premium options will include Royal Suite Class accommodations, while selected cabins will be designed specifically for larger families and groups.
MSC World Atlantic – MSC Cruises
Launch Date: November 2027
MSC World Atlantic will join MSC Cruises’ World Class fleet in 2027.
The ship will feature large outdoor promenades, a wide selection of restaurants and bars, live entertainment, nightlife, lounges, and family-friendly attractions.
Like other World Class ships, MSC World Atlantic will combine large resort-style spaces with plenty of dining, entertainment, and activities for both adults and families.
MSC World Atlantic will offer a wide range of accommodations, including interior, ocean-view and balcony cabins, family cabins, and suites. Premium options will include MSC Yacht Club suites, offering larger accommodations and access to exclusive Yacht Club areas and services.
MSC World Atlantic will sail from Port Canaveral, Florida, offering seven-night Caribbean cruises with itineraries to the Eastern and Western Caribbean.
Oceania Aurelia – Oceania Cruises
Launch Date: Late 2027
Oceania Aurelia is not a completely new ship, but a refreshed and renamed version of Oceania Nautica, launching under its new name in 2027.
The small ship will focus on longer, destination-rich cruises, including Around the World cruises in 2028 and 2029 and extended Grand Voyages.
Onboard, guests can expect comfortable cabins and suites, multiple dining options, enrichment programs, and relaxed lounges and public spaces, with an emphasis on extended voyages and exploring destinations around the world.
The ship will accommodate fewer than 500 guests, offering an intimate setting well suited to longer voyages.
Oceania Aurelia will offer inside and ocean-view staterooms, veranda cabins, and a range of suites. Larger options will include Penthouse, Vista, and Owner’s Suites, with more living space and additional amenities.
Disney Believe – Disney Cruise Line
Launch Date: Late 2027
Disney Believe will join Disney Cruise Line in late 2027 as the fourth Wish Class ship.
The ship will feature experiences inspired by Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars, with a strong focus on families and entertainment.
While full details have not yet been announced, guests can expect live shows, themed dining, children's clubs and activities, and dedicated adult-only spaces.
EXPLORA V – Explora Journeys
Launch Date: December 2027
EXPLORA V will become the fifth ship in the Explora Journeys fleet when it launches in December 2027. The ship will feature spacious oceanfront suites, multiple restaurants and bars, wellness facilities, and luxury public spaces.
Its first cruises will sail through the Mediterranean, visiting destinations such as Valletta, Dubrovnik, Istanbul, and Naples, before continuing to the Red Sea and Arabian Peninsula. Some itineraries will include longer stays and overnight port calls, giving guests more time to explore each destination.
EXPLORA V will offer oceanfront suites, many with private terraces. Accommodation will range from Ocean Suites to larger Ocean Penthouses and Ocean Residences, with the largest options providing separate living areas and additional outdoor space.
Are New Cruise Ships Getting Bigger?
Yes, many new cruise ships are getting bigger, particularly those operated by major cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean, MSC Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line, and Norwegian Cruise Line. The largest new ships can carry several thousand passengers and have more decks, cabins, restaurants, entertainment venues, and outdoor spaces than previous generations.
Size is not just about passenger capacity and gross tonnage. New megaships are increasingly designed like floating resorts, with different neighborhoods or themed areas, multiple pools, large waterparks, sports facilities, theaters, live entertainment venues, and dozens of restaurants and bars.
However, not every new cruise ship is getting bigger. Luxury and expedition cruise lines are also launching smaller ships carrying a few hundred passengers. Ships such as these focus more on spacious cabins, personalized service, smaller ports, longer destination stays, and less crowded onboard environments.
As a result, the cruise industry is expanding in both directions: larger resort-style ships with more onboard attractions and smaller luxury ships focused on destinations, space, and personalized experiences.
What Will Be Different About the Next Generation of Cruise Ships?
New cruise ships are becoming more advanced, with improvements in connectivity, energy efficiency, entertainment, dining, and onboard technology. While features vary between cruise lines, many ships launching in 2026, 2027 and beyond are being designed to offer more choices onboard while using newer technologies.
More Advanced Internet and Connectivity
Reliable internet on a cruise is becoming increasingly important.
Newer vessels are being designed with improved satellite internet and ship-wide Wi-Fi, making it easier for passengers to stay connected while at sea.
Travelers increasingly expect to use the internet for messaging, social media, video calls, streaming, and even remote work. Cruise line apps are also becoming a bigger part of the onboard experience, allowing passengers to check schedules, make restaurant reservations, book activities, communicate with other guests, and manage their cruise from their phones.
Mobile connectivity is also evolving. Depending on the ship and itinerary, passengers may be able to connect through maritime cellular networks or compatible cruise eSIMs, providing another option alongside onboard Wi-Fi.

More Efficient and Sustainable Technology
New cruise ships are also being built with technology designed to reduce fuel consumption, emissions, and overall environmental impact.
Some ships are LNG-capable, while cruise lines are also exploring alternative fuels and propulsion technologies. Other improvements include more efficient engines, shore-power connections, energy-saving systems, and improved hull designs.
Waste and water management is another important area. Newer vessels can include advanced systems for treating wastewater, producing fresh water, managing waste, and reducing energy consumption throughout the ship.
Bigger Onboard Attractions
On large new cruise ships, onboard attractions are becoming increasingly elaborate. Instead of simply offering a few pools and entertainment venues, some ships are being designed as large floating resorts.
Passengers can find water parks, waterslides, rides, sports courts, climbing areas, large pool decks, gaming spaces, and dedicated family attractions. Some ships divide these attractions into different neighborhoods or entertainment districts, giving passengers several distinct areas to explore.
Not every new ship follows this approach, however. Smaller luxury vessels generally focus more on pools, spas, lounges, outdoor decks, and access to the sea rather than large-scale attractions.
More Dining and Entertainment Choices
New cruise ships are also offering more variety when it comes to food and entertainment. Large vessels can have dozens of restaurants, cafés, bars, and lounges, ranging from casual food halls to specialty and fine-dining restaurants.
Entertainment is becoming more varied as well, with live music, theater productions, comedy, immersive shows, nightclubs, interactive experiences, and dedicated entertainment venues.
This gives passengers more choice throughout their cruise and makes the ship itself an increasingly important part of the vacation, rather than simply a way to travel between destinations.
